Daniel J. Holzrichter
Senior Vice President
Dan prides himself on his disciplined and decisive approach to investing and life. These traits were instilled in him during his four years at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where he was also a mainstay on the Navy Hockey Team. Upon graduation in 1985, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.
Dan served 3 years as an armor officer, including a 6 month deployment to West Africa and South America, where he was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal. Upon his return, he flew as an Aerial Observer in the back of the OV-10 Bronco. He was awarded the Air Medal for combat flights during Operation Desert Storm. Dan left active duty as a Captain, and was promoted to the rank of Major while serving in the United States Marine Corp Reserves.
In 1991, he turned his lifelong hobby of investing into a career as a Financial Advisor. He has twice served on New York Stock Exchange policy boards, developing training for new advisors as well as continuing education for experienced advisors.
Dan focuses on evaluating individual stocks and bonds and manages the teams’ Private Investment Management Accounts. PIM allows the team to manage client portfolios using a disciplined, diversified, and dynamic approach to investing. In order to keep abreast of the markets, Dan daily updates his charts on many individual companies and is a voracious reader of comments by some of the best money managers in the industry. He enjoys passing on his love of investing and wealth management, by educating clients and helping them develop a plan to turn their dreams into reality.
Dan was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa. He and his wife, Vickie, have three children, Ben, Rebecca and Sam. He is active in his church, serves on several community boards, and stays involved in many youth activities. He is a long time youth hockey coach, and referees hockey at all levels including collegiate games.
Jay E. Morrison, CFP®
Senior Vice President
Jay has over 20 years of experience in assisting individuals, families and business owners in quantifying and meeting their wealth management goals. He began his financial career as a sales assistant 1994, working with Rich Crawford and Dan Holzrichter. Jay earned his security licenses a year later. He became a Financial Advisor in 2001 with the Crawford, Holzrichter & Morrison Group and focused on evaluating and managing mutual funds in client accounts. In 2011 the Crawford Holzrichter & Morrison Group joined Baird. Rich Crawford retired in 2017 and the Holzrichter Morrison Group was formed.
The Holzrichter Morrison Group believes financial planning is an integral part of overall wealth management and the team’s 4D Experience. Jay demonstrated his commitment to this process in 2012 by becoming a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER TM, or CFP®. The CFP® is achieved by a limited number of advisors who meet rigorous education, examination, experience and ethics requirements. He enjoys the careful planning necessary to help clients navigate the many financial milestones of their lives – from buying a house, managing liabilities, and saving for college to ensuring assets work together for retirement and legacy planning. He also conducts life insurance and long-term care evaluations for his team.
Jay earned his Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Finance and a minor in Economics from Iowa State University. A native of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Jay enjoys working with the young people in his community and is active in the Boy Scouts of America. He is the Cub Scout leader for Pack 272, Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 272, and also part of an adult leader training program known as Wood Badge for the Mid-American Council. Jay has also assisted with the SB-L Junior Football and Basketball programs, was a member of the Kiwanis Club, and has served in a variety of leadership positions for the Community United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Joanna, have two sons, Zachary and Daniel, all of whom are rabid Iowa State Cyclone fans!
John S. Den Beste
John has always had a passion for helping people and loves helping clients navigate the complex world of finance and investing. John believes in providing highly personalized, knowledgeable and objective advice to clients. While he works with all levels of clients, John gives special emphasis to new and next generation investors, helping educate and guide them during the very important beginning years. He utilizes the BairdNext program to assist younger clients in making smart financial decisions, turning their dreams into goals, and goals into reality by investing wisely. John and the Holzrichter Morrison Group fervently believe in Baird’s number one rule, “The client’s needs always come first.”
John was born and raised in Sioux City, IA. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration from Morningside College, and an Associate degree as an EMT-Paramedic from Western Iowa Tech Community College. Prior to joining Baird, John worked for 11 years in orthopedic medical sales, where he honed his passion for helping people and delivering exceptional customer service.
John currently resides in Sioux City, IA with his wife Taylor, 2 dogs Maverick and Hazel and 2 cats KiKi and Walter. He is very active in his church where he is involved in multiple committees and sings and plays the bass on the worship team. He also gives back to the community by serving as a Reserve Deputy with the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office. In his free time, John enjoys spending time with family, working in the yard, golfing, cycling and cooking.
Senior Client Specialist
Dawn is passionate about client service and care! She joined the Holzrichter Morrison Group in February 2014 and has over 20 years of experience in providing exceptional customer service to clients in both the health care and financial industries.
In February 2017, Dawn received the Branch Associate All Star Award, given annually to only two of the over 500 support associates, firm wide. This award is given in recognition for outstanding client service and willingness to go the extra mile. Her work ethic exemplifies honesty, integrity and genuine concern for her clients. Dawn is the epitome of Baird’s #1 rule, “Do what’s right for the client!”
Dawn holds her Series 7, Series 63 and Series 66 license. She is responsible for all administrative duties for the team including opening new accounts, updating accounts and processing account transfers. She is the team’s cash management specialist, handling all incoming and outgoing checks, electronic fund transfers, and journaling securities.
She is also an excellent resource for clients who have questions about their statements or online account access. Dawn also manages the team’s social media programs including Facebook, LinkedIn, and the team’s website. She works closely with Baird’s marketing department on all team related promotions and literature.
Originally from the Phoenix area, Dawn attended Concordia University in Nebraska. She has lived in Sioux City for over 25 years. She has been very involved in the community, especially in her church and her daughters’ schools. Dawn treasures the time she gets to spend with family and friends, especially her two daughters, Katie and Amanda.
Cathi joined Baird and the Holzrichter Morrison Group in 2017, bringing a wealth of experience in the financial industry. A life-long Sioux City resident, she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Morningside College with a minor in Business Administration. She began her career as a staff accountant for a local CPA firm and transitioned to a position as the accounting and office manager for a privately held firm. Most recently, she worked in the financial office for a local college.
Helping others comes naturally to Cathi. She is a people person who loves really getting to know our clients, and tries to bring “a little sunshine” into all the lives she touches. A stickler for accuracy and details, and enjoys solving problems and helping clients. She coordinates the team’s client review process as well as supports team’s administrative and cash management functions.
Cathi and her husband, Larry, have three children, Levi, Colby and Cora. She dedicates her free time to her family, and is very active in her church. She also volunteers for many other organizations, primarily dealing with school and youth activities.
