For most people, investing in the financial markets is a mystery. When their investments fail to achieve the desired results, they conclude that they took too much risk; invested at the wrong time; were ill-advised by their financial consultants; or were unlucky. When their investments meet or exceed their expectations, usually ill-defined, many will conclude the reverse.

Allowing for the possibility that one or all of the reasons given above are valid, there is a process of investing that will usually meet reasonable expectations, over reasonable periods of time and will keep investors within their "comfort zone" with regard to risk.

This approach to investing is based entirely on the identified needs of the client. This method is distinctive because it does not rely soley on the investment philosophy of the financial consultant or track record of any money manager. It joins client needs with long-term historical trends and lets time and money work together to produce the desired results. Asset allocation becomes a key component at this time.

The process begins with the question, "Is your portfolio in line with your financial goals?" Or better yet, "Have you identified your financial goals?" Surprisingly, most investors do not have a specific goal in mind when investing.
