Thomas F. Schmid
Joining the firm in 1968, Tom has been serving Baird clients for more than 50 years. Having witnessed and worked through multiple economic cycles and market periods, Tom brings a wealth of advice to his clients, and is one of Baird’s most experienced and successful financial professionals. Tom works with high net worth clients and specializes in developing tax-efficient portfolios for individual and corporate investors.
Tom supports a number of civic and charitable organizations, and he currently serves on the finance committee for Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital, and is on the board of Columbia College of Nursing. In May 2006, Tom was awarded the Brenton H. Rupple Citizenship Award for his exemplary leadership in giving back to the greater Milwaukee community.
A graduate of Marquette University and an avid supporter of the basketball program, Tom and his wife Judy reside in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin where they enjoy spending time with their four adult children and nine grandchildren.
Alexander J. Smith
Senior Vice President
Alex began his career at Baird in 1995 with the firm’s research department, where he focused primarily on equity investment strategies. In 2002 he partnered with Tom, joining Baird’s Private Wealth Management group and creating the Schmid Smith Group. He provides strategic, goal-oriented wealth management solutions and investment advice to working professionals, retirees, families, and business owners. He believes that a disciplined approach rooted within a “keep it simple” philosophy is key to achieving long-term financial success.
Before joining Baird, Alex served several years in the U.S. Navy as a flight engineer on a surveillance/reconnaissance aircraft and is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Governors State University and a master's degree in business administration from Marquette University.
Alex resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with his wife Kate, and their two children. He is a member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars and The American Legion.
Theresa D. Boyd, CRPC®
Theresa joined Baird in 1999 with 10 years of financial industry experience, and soon after (2002) was awarded the G. Frederick Kasten, Jr. Award, Baird’s most prestigious client service recognition.
Within the team, Theresa takes the lead on financial planning matters, municipal bonds and insurance planning (life, long term care, disability, and annuities). She believes in taking a collaborative approach when it comes to financial planning and advising. Theresa has a passion for working with young professionals; helping them to build a solid financial foundation that will benefit them throughout their lives.
She has a bachelor’s degree in business management through Ottawa University. Additionally Theresa serves as a volunteer Big Sister with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Milwaukee, and as a volunteer Money Coach through Make A Difference Wisconsin.
Theresa and her husband, Scott, currently live in West Allis with their 2 dogs.
Deanne M. Soetenga, CFP®
Associate Financial Advisor - PWM Financial Planner
Deanne joined the Baird team in April 2004. She started her financial career with Strong Investments (now Wells Fargo) in 2002 and brings with her the ability to help clients understand their investments and assist them with reaching their goals.
Before starting her finance career she worked as a Data Analyst for Buell Motorcycle Co., a former subsidiary of Harley Davidson. She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Deanne resides in Waukesha, Wisconsin with her husband, Dowie, and their two children.
Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP® CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and federally registered CFP (with flame design) in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board’s initial and ongoing certification requirements.
Christopher M. Torres
Senior Client Specialist
Chris began his career at Baird in December 2011. He started his financial career with Smith Barney (now Morgan Stanley) in 2000 as a Client Service & Operations Specialist, obtaining his series 7 and 63 in 2007 and 2008. His duties for the team include entering trades, assisting clients with administrative needs, and any other day-to-day requests. His attention to detail ensures clients have the outcomes they expect and need. He and Emily work together to make sure clients are receiving the high quality service they deserve in a timely manner.
Before starting his finance career he served three years in the U.S. Army as a Fire Support Specialist in Korea & Fort Lewis, WA. He has a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from the State University of New York – Purchase.
Chris resides in Fox Point, Wisconsin with his wife, Kaitlin, and their two children.
Emily A.M. Raychel
Senior Client Specialist
The most recent member of the Schmid Smith Group, Emily started her career in the financial services industry at Baird in August 2015. As a point of contact for day-to-day needs, including trading, administrative requests, and operations, she focuses on responsiveness and accuracy. She and Chris work together to make sure clients are receiving the high-quality service they deserve in a timely manner.
Emily is a graduate of the Lubar School of Business at UW-Milwaukee with a degree in Finance. Since joining the firm, she has obtained her series 7 and 66 license designations.
Emily resides in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin with her husband, Adam, and their two daughters.
