Upon graduation from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Frances left North Carolina to seek her fortune. In New York City, she worked briefly for financial legend Julian Robertson in the early days of his hedge fund, Tiger Management. Learning that the investment business fascinated her, she joined Morgan Stanley in 1981. Her return to North Carolina led to a 26 year career with the firm that is now Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, 16 of those years in partnership with John Allman.
Having the desire to give back to her community, Frances currently serves on the Board of Learning Together, Inc., and serves on the Steering Committee of the Women’s Leadership Forum of the United Way of the Greater Triangle. She was a founding member of the Raleigh Professional Women’s Forum. She has enjoyed her roles in fundraising for various non-profit agencies over the past 27 years.
